Our Bin the beds 2017 campaign
I believe Ireland should follow the lead of Australia and ban sunbed use here in Ireland.
Research has shown that people who have EVER used a sunbed are 20% more likely to develop melanoma in later life, and with the projected increase in incidence rates of melanoma published in 2014 by the NCRI who have predicted an increase of 175% in Women and 327% in men by 2040 (very frightening statistics) It's time to try to do something.
The Public health sunbeds act was put in place in 2014
The act makes it an offence to- Sell or hire a sunbed to any person under the age of 18.
All great news, now we need to go a step further. Recent statistics show people who first use a tanning bed before age 35 increase their risk of developing melanoma later in life by 60%
Another scary statistic!

Well brian a girl I know not very well but eonough. She is always brown and I was always wondering what tan cream she uses as it looks so dark, well only found out through conversation with my sis in law that it's sunbeds and she's addicted. Her poor face is so old and wrinkled I really feel sorry for her and am so surprised she still uses a sun bed considering she knows what I went through.
Hi Sonya great to see you posting on the open forum, Yes it is still happening all across Ireland and no amount of awareness seems to be working, I think the only way forward is a total ban, somebody recently told me that they use sunbeds and they have signed the petition because they feel only a total ban will stop the using them. Sad really. 🙁
