Thought I would add this topic it is something close to my heart, From seeing my GP who referred me straight away I was waiting three months to see a specialist, In the end luckily my GP removed my mole and sent it away for biopsy if he had not done that I don't think I would be here today, the biopsy returned with a 6.2 mm thickness, I eventually received my appointment to see the specialist 3 weeks after I had had surgery (neck dissection). I recently contacted the ministers office for health and eventually received this

"The NCCP also carried out research in 2014 on waiting times from GP referral to consultant appointment for suspected melanoma. This research showed that of the 16 public hospitals with dermatology/plastic surgery services, over 60% had a wait time of less than 2 weeks."

If this is true what about the other 40% ? and is this public or private statistics as I'm fully aware that some public patients are paying to go private so they get seen by a specialist a lot quicker.  I am still waiting for a reply to this and to be honest I will not hold my breath.

What we need is a timeline set (2 weeks) for urgent melanoma referrals here in Ireland, in a recent survey we asked over 100 melanoma survivors how long they had to wait after GP referral before they got to see a specialist,  over 30%  waited longer than a month and 15% waited longer than 3 months after GP referral this is not acceptable at all.
