These are just a few comments added to our petition over the last few days.

We need to reduce the rate of melanoma in this country. Our young men and women need to be informed that melanoma kills, it is easy to get a tan from a bottle and not these beds

I've seen first hand the disastrous consequences of overexposure and wouldn't wish those consequences on my worst enemy.

The WHO states UV radiation is a known carcinogen. This is a serious public health issue with long term ramifications. Banning sunbeds will protect people, especially those under 35 years, from the risk of developing melanoma. Any reduction in the incidence of melanoma will have a substantial impact on the health system with its associated costs. Prevention is better than cure and it saves lives. I applaud Melanoma Awareness Ireland for taking the initiative to raise awareness about the dangers of sunbeds use.

I am signing this as a melanoma survivor. Sun beds are as dangerous as a loaded gun

I have stage 3 melanoma, was diagnosed at 33 years old & wouldn't wish it on anyone. Get these death traps banned!!

At 29 I have regularly used the beds maybe between 3-4 times a month and with zero willpower I keep going on them but I feel if they were banned it would make it easier to not go on them

We have the highest skin cancer stats in europe yet everywhere from hairdressers to gyms are still allowed to offer and profit from this cancer emitting practice with little or no regulation to the consumer.

It's a no brainier as far as I'm concerned, sunbeds do nothing but harm, firstly they scar your skin by burning it and then more than likely they will cause you to get cancer. Although it appeared an attempt was made to regulate I don't believe it has been in any way successful as I'm aware of salons allowing young teenagers to continue to use sun beds.
